A Brief History of St. Anne Community Theatre
Several years ago, I grew concerned with the lack of
theatre being provided at the middle school level in and around our schools in the
Barrington community, and it seemed that more and more community theatres were closing
their doors due to rising production costs. Coupled with budget cuts to many
of the theatre art programs at the high school level, it seemed that theatre experiences
were left to the extremely talented or casts so large that the true experience of
enjoyable community theatre is lost.
With the approval of our pastor, Jack Dewes, and the
dedicated work and support from teachers at St. Anne School we produced our first
show Treasure Island. From there we have grown in size and complexity of our
productions and a true community theatre program that combines middle school and
high school students in a caring, nurturing and Christian environment has emerged.
Through the continued support of the St. Anne Community,
cast, parents and teachers we will provide quality theatre for audiences and performers
alike. God willing, this program will continue to showcase the many gifts
of our young people, expose a new generation to live theatre and provide the educational
merit that theatre provides.
